Train Seat Availability: At times, even if we have a ticket reservation, we might not be allocated the seat of our preference in the train. We often lose interest if we are assigned an upper berth or a middle seat mainly when we want to sit by the window and see the outside world. There are times when we have to board the train without a ticket in an emergency. In such situations, it is easier to travel, if we know which seat is vacant in the train on motion. But, thanks to a special feature of IRCTC, we can check this information comfortably on our mobile or laptop.
How to Find Vacant Seats on a Moving Train
To use this feature of Indian Railways, visit the official IRCTC ticket booking website. You can get complete seat information by following a few simple steps.
Steps to Check Seat Availability:
- Go to the homepage of the IRCTC website.
- At the top, you will see two options — “PNR Status” and “Charts / Vacancy.”
- Click on the “Charts / Vacancy” option.
- A new page will open, where you need to enter your train name or number, journey date, and boarding station.
- After filling in all the details, click on the “Get Train Chart” option.
How to Read the Reservation Chart:
After clicking on “Get Train Chart,” the complete reservation chart of that train will appear. You can see how many seats are vacant in different coaches like AC and Sleeper. When you click on any coach, a seat layout will open showing seats in different colors to help you identify available ones easily.
