The legendary batsman played his first T20 International match against Zimbabwe in Harare on October 15, 2011. He didn’t get a chance to showcase his talent in his debut match, as the Kiwis easily achieved the target of 124 runs set by the opposition in 13.3 overs without any loss. Williamson’s last T20 International match was against Papua New Guinea on June 17, 2024. He came out to bat at number four for his team to chase the target. During this innings, he played an unbeaten inning of 18 runs in 17 balls with the help of two fours and returned to the dressing room only after leading his team to victory.
Speaking of Kane Williamson’s T20 International cricket career, he played 93 matches for New Zealand between 2011 and 2024. During this period, he scored 2575 runs in 90 innings at an average of 33.44. Williamson has 18 half-centuries in T20 International cricket. His highest single-match innings was 95 runs.

Announcing his retirement, Williamson said, “This is something I’ve loved being a part of for a long time. I’m incredibly grateful for these memories and experiences. This is the right time for me and the team. This will give the team clarity for the upcoming series and our next major goal: the T20 World Cup. There’s a lot of talent here (in the New Zealand team). The next phase will be crucial in reinforcing these players’ cricket and preparing them for the World Cup.”
