If you use FASTag and were worried about your tag being blocked due to ‘KYV’ (Know Your Vehicle) issues, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made a significant decision for you! Following a steady stream of complaints, NHAI has made the FASTag KYV process easier and more user-friendly than ever before. You no longer have to worry about your FASTag being blocked or uploading photos of multiple documents for a KYV update. Learn about the simplified KYV process under the new rules, ensuring seamless travel.
NHAI’s Major Change
Following a series of questions raised on social media and in the news, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a decisive step for FASTag users. The Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has issued new guidelines, making the entire KYV process faster and less complicated.

The government aims to increase transparency in the toll system and provide seamless travel for users. The biggest relief is that FASTags will no longer be immediately deactivated if KYC verification is incomplete. According to the new guidelines, users whose KYV is incomplete will be given ample time and opportunity to complete the process. This will greatly relieve drivers traveling long distances.
Now, KYV can be updated with just one photo.
To simplify the KYV process, a major change has been made to the document uploading rules. Previously, multiple photos of the vehicle, including the front, side, and a close-up image of the tag, were required to complete the KYV. Now, this rule has changed. Only one front photo will be sufficient for KYV, in which both the number plate and FASTag must be clearly visible. This change has made the entire process hassle-free and time-saving.
RC Details Automatic Link
The biggest and revolutionary update to KYV is that you no longer need to upload a copy of the RC (Registration Certificate). The system will automatically retrieve your vehicle’s RC details from the ‘Vahan Portal’.
Users will only need to enter the vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number. If multiple vehicles are registered under the same mobile number, you can select which vehicle’s KYV is to be completed. This greatly simplifies the verification process.
SMS Alerts and Bank Support Will Help
NHAI has clarified that old FASTags will remain active as long as there are no complaints of their malfunction or misuse. This means that if you are using the tag honestly, your FASTag will continue to function without interruption. Users will now receive SMS alerts for KYV verification, which will help them complete the process on time.
If anyone faces any difficulty uploading documents, the relevant bank will contact the customer and assist. If needed, users can register complaints or queries by calling the National Highway Helpline number 1033.

KYV (Know Your Vehicle) is a process implemented by NPCI to ensure that each FASTag is linked to the vehicle in whose name it was issued. The government has taken this step to prevent fraud and misuse of the tag. Now, with these simple rules, you can make your travel stress-free.
