Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar gave India an important wicket after lunch. He got Alick Athanaze (38 off 74) out with a smart return catch. Athanaze tried to hit the ball to the leg side but got a leading edge. Sundar moved fast, dived to his right, and took a great catch. This gave India more confidence, as they were already in control of the match in Ahmedabad.
India declared their first innings at 448/5. They took a lead of 286 runs over West Indies. Dhruv Jurel scored 125, Ravindra Jadeja scored 104, and KL Rahul scored 100. The captain declared at the start of Day 3 to use the good bowling conditions.
Earlier, India’s bowlers were in full control. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav troubled the West Indies batters and took four wickets together. The visitors could not make big partnerships. When Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves tried to settle, Washington Sundar’s smart bowling broke their stand.
Sundar’s Smart Bowling Puts India in the Driver’s Seat
In 35.3 overs, Washington Sundar bowled a ball on off stump. The ball went straight after pitching. Athanaze tried to hit it to the leg side but hit it too early. The ball went in the air. Sundar moved fast and caught it with one hand. It was a great return catch. This wicket made India closer to winning the first Test.
India Wins First Test Easily
India beat West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at Ahmedabad. The game finished on the third day after lunch. India started their home season with a big win. It was a special day for Shubman Gill in his first Test as captain at home. India declared at 448/5 overnight. West Indies came out to bat for the second time. West Indies could not bat for long. They were all out for 146 runs in 45.1 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, Mohammed Siraj took three, and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets.
