Athanaze tried to hit the ball to the leg side but got a leading edge. Sundar moved fast, dived to his right, and took a great catch. This gave India more confidence, as they were already in control of the match in Ahmedabad.
India declared their first innings at 448/5. They took a lead of 286 runs over West Indies. Dhruv Jurel scored 125, Ravindra Jadeja scored 104, and KL Rahul scored 100. The captain declared at the start of Day 3 to use the good bowling conditions.

India beat West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at Ahmedabad. The game finished on the third day after lunch. India started their home season with a big win. It was a special day for Shubman Gill in his first Test as captain at home. India declared at 448/5 overnight. West Indies came out to bat for the second time. West Indies could not bat for long.
