The world of electric vehicles is rapidly changing, and the demand for midsize EV SUVs in the Indian market is increasing day by day. Two big names, the Mahindra BE 6 and the Tata Curvv EV, are facing off in this segment. Both brands are highlighting their design, battery, and technology. But the question is how far these cars can go in the real world compared to their ARAI claimed range. Let’s take a closer look at each feature in this comparison.

Battery
The Mahindra BE 6 Pack Three features a larger 79kWh battery with an ARAI range of 683km. The Tata Curvv EV Empowered+ A 55 Dark, meanwhile, features a 55kWh battery with an ARAI figure of 502km. On paper, the Mahindra’s battery appears larger and more powerful, but the Tata’s has the advantage of being around Rs 5.16 lakh cheaper.

Mahindra BE 6 is far ahead in power figures as well. It produces 286hp and 380Nm of torque, while Tata Curvv EV is limited to 167hp and 215Nm. Not only this, Mahindra’s RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) layout offers a more engaging driving experience, whereas Tata’s FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) layout focuses on more efficiency.
Charging
In terms of charging, the Tata Curvv EV charges faster on an AC charger due to its smaller battery. It takes 7.9 hours to fully charge using a 7.2kW charger, while the Mahindra takes around 11.7 hours. However, the Mahindra BE 6 supports DC fast charging at 180kW, allowing it to charge quickly in just 20 minutes. In comparison, Tata’s 70kW DC charging takes 40 minutes.
In terms of pricing, the Tata Curvv EV Empowered+ A 55 Dark is priced at Rs 22.24 lakh, which includes the 7.2kW charger. The Mahindra BE 6 Pack Three costs Rs 26.90 lakh, with an additional Rs 50,000 for the charger and its installation, taking the total price to Rs 27.40 lakh.

Range
Now talking about its range, Mahindra BE 6 gave a combined range of 449km in our rigorous tests, which is 234km less than its ARAI figure. Whereas Tata Curvv EV gave a real-world range of 365km, which is 137km less than the ARAI claim.
In both city and highway conditions, Mahindra BE 6 covered a longer distance – 438km in city and 459km on highway. Tata Curvv EV was limited to 371km in city and 358km on highway.
Efficiency
The Mahindra BE 6 may have had a longer range, but the Tata Curvv EV won in terms of efficiency. Each kWh covered a distance of 6.64 km. The Mahindra BE 6’s efficiency was 5.68 km/kWh.

This simply means that the Tata’s battery uses energy more efficiently than the Mahindra’s. The Mahindra’s larger battery and higher power output (286 hp, 380 Nm) drag down its efficiency.
