There’s some excellent news for railway employees. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the granting of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ salary to railway employees in recognition of their outstanding performance. This announcement will result in an additional cost of ₹1,865.68 crore to the government treasury and will directly benefit approximately 10,91,146 railway employees.

Each eligible railway employee will receive a maximum bonus of ₹17,951. This bonus is being given in recognition of the Railways’ exceptional performance in the financial year 2024-25, loading a record 1614.90 million tons of freight and carrying approximately 7.3 billion passengers.

Which employees will receive this bumper bonus

This Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) is given to eligible railway employees every year just before the Durga Puja/Dussehra festivals. This year, approximately 10.91 lakh non-gazetted railway employees will receive a Pension Budget (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ salary. The payment of productivity-based bonuses serves as an incentive for railway employees to improve the railway’s performance. The bonus amount will be transferred directly to employees’ accounts, and payments will begin shortly, allowing them to indulge in festive shopping.

The categories of employees receiving this bonus primarily include: track maintainers (those who maintain the tracks), loco pilots (those who operate the trains), train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician assistants, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other Group ‘C’ employees.
