The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has started a new campaign regarding the KYC (Know Your Customer) process related to bank accounts. The purpose of this initiative is to verify the identity of customers from time to time and make the banking system more secure. If you do not update your KYC in time, your bank account may be deactivated.
What is RBI’s new instruction?RBI has started KYC update campaign across the country from 1 July 2025, which will run till 30 September 2025. During this, all bank account holders have been told that if they have received a message of re-KYC (KYC update) from their bank, then they should immediately go to the bank or panchayat camp with the necessary documents and complete the process.
RBI is informing customers through WhatsApp, SMS and social media that if they have received an alert from the bank for re-KYC, they should not ignore it. How to do re-KYC? Updating re-KYC is a very easy process. By following the steps given below, you can complete this task without any hassle:
In rural areas:
-Go to your Gram Panchayat camp.
-Carry necessary documents like:
-Aadhar card
-Voter ID
-Passport
-Driving license
-MGNREGA job card
In urban areas:
Visit the nearest bank branch.
Carry any one of the above documents as identity proof.
If there is no change in your details
You can also update KYC by giving only Self Declaration. In this, you have to state in writing that there has been no change in your personal details.
Why is it necessary to update KYC?
- Your bank account can be frozen if KYC is not updated.
- There may be a problem in any financial transaction.
- Facilities provided by the bank like ATM, Net Banking, UPI etc. may be temporarily closed.
- It is the policy of both RBI and the bank to verify the identity of the account holders from time to time to avoid any fraud.
