The CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Bhuvnesh Kumar, has issued this instruction by writing a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all the states and union territories. It has been said in the letter that by organizing camps in schools, the work of pending Aadhaar biometric update of children should be completed as soon as possible. This step has been taken so that in the future, children do not face any problem in taking advantage of government schemes.
Why is Aadhaar update necessary at the age of 5 to 15 years
UIDAI has clarified that it is very important for children to get a biometric update at the age of 5 and then at the age of 15. This is because at these ages, there are changes in the biometrics of children, such as fingerprints and the iris of the eyes. Due to a lack of timely updates, the information recorded in Aadhaar becomes outdated, which causes problems in verification. This update is very important for correct and reliable biometric data.

Aadhaar update of 17 crore children is pending
According to a report, currently, a biometric update is pending for the Aadhaar numbers of about 17 crore children in the country. If the update of these children is not done on time, then they may have to face many problems in the future. In view of this, UIDAI has started this new initiative.
Easy update in schools
To solve this problem, UIDAI has started a new facility in collaboration with the Department of School Education and Literacy. Now, through the UDISE+** application, schools will get information about which of their students’ mandatory biometric updates are pending. This will make it easier for schools to do this work, and the Aadhaar of crores of students will be updated on time.
What will be the disadvantages of not updating

Children may have to face many problems if the Aadhaar biometric is not updated on time. These disadvantages are explained in detail in the table below:
1. There may be problems in getting government schemes like scholarships or other financial benefits in the future.
2. Registration and verification for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CUET, etc. may be hindered.
3. If the biometric data is not correct, there will be problems in identity verification anywhere.
4. If the work is not done on time, then one may have to stand in a crowd and long queues later.
UIDAI appeals to state governments
The UIDAI chief, in his letter, has urged all the states and union territories to complete this work by setting up special camps in schools. He informed that the technical teams of UIDAI and the School Education Department have developed a special solution on the ‘UDISE+’ app for this work. This commendable initiative will ensure that no child is deprived of any opportunity in the future due to a lack of necessary documents.
