Bharat Taxi Update 2026: A historic chapter has begun in India’s transport and cooperative sector. Union Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah launched the country’s first cooperative ride-hailing app,“Bharat Taxi,” nationwide on February 5, 2026.

Operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited under the aegis of the Ministry of Cooperation, the app is designed to challenge the high commission model of private companies like Ola and Uber. The app’s most significant feature is that it doesn’t treat drivers as mere employees, but rather as owners of the cooperative, giving them the honor of “sarathi.”

What is Bharat Taxi

Bharat Taxi is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act 2002. While private aggregator apps take 25 to 30 percent of drivers’ earnings as commission, Bharat Taxi operates on a zero-commission model. It aims to provide economic and social security to drivers.

At the heart of this system are drivers, or Sarathi, who are empowered to operate the platform. The app not only focuses on increasing drivers’ income but also provides passengers with affordable and safe travel options by eliminating surge pricing.

Vehicle Registration Process on Bharat Taxi

To register your vehicle with Bharat Taxi, the process is completely digital and simple. First, you need to download the ‘Bharat Taxi Driver’ app from the Google Play Store or App Store. After opening the app, verify by receiving an OTP via your mobile number. Next, you need to upload your name, email, vehicle details, driving license, RC, and other required documents.

To ensure the accuracy of your profile, the government has linked it to DigiLocker and the police verification system. Once the document verification is complete and approved, you will be ready to accept your first ride as a ‘Sarathi’ immediately.

Earn up to ₹2.4 lakh per month

By joining the Bharat Taxi app, drivers can significantly increase their income. If a driver averages ₹10, 000 per day, their total earnings can reach approximately ₹300, 000 in 30 days. Under this model, approximately 80 percent of the total earnings go directly to the driver’s bank account, while the remaining 20 percent is used to operate the app and contribute to the cooperative fund.

This means that approximately ₹2.4 lakh per month will directly go into your pocket. Additionally, the cooperative fund will be used to provide welfare measures for drivers, such as social security insurance, health benefits, and retirement funds, which are not available in private companies.

Social Security and Expansion

Bharat Taxi’s primary goal is to provide drivers with a secure future by freeing them from the clutches of middlemen. Every driver who joins the app automatically receives benefits like accident insurance and life insurance. After successful initial trials in Delhi-NCR and select states, it is now being implemented in major cities across India.

The government plans to integrate Bharat Taxi with other transportation services, such as auto-rickshaws and electric bike taxis, in the future to maximize self-employment opportunities for middle- and lower-income groups.
