Vietnam Boat Accident: A boat carrying Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, on Saturday. Local media reports indicate that 15 individuals lost their lives in the incident, while 21 others were rescued and taken to various hospitals. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has now published a list of the 15 deceased.

According to the list shared by the Indian Embassy in Vietnam on Saturday evening, Tamil Nadu has the highest number of casualties. Ten citizens from Tamil Nadu have died, while three of the deceased hail from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala.

The embassy announced on the social media platform X, stating, “It is with deep sadness that we share the list of 15 Indian nationals who died in a boat accident near Phu Quoc Island today. This list has been received from Vietnamese authorities. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased. The Embassy and Consulates in Ho Chi Minh City are ready to provide any assistance needed.”

While the cause of the boat accident remains unclear, local authorities are actively conducting rescue and relief operations. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has mentioned that they are gathering detailed information regarding the incident.

PM Modi expressed his sorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have both expressed their grief over the boat accident in Vietnam. PM Modi extended his condolences to the grieving families and assured that the Indian Embassy will offer all possible support. Rajnath Singh also wished for a swift recovery for those injured in the accident.

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi shared on the social media platform X, “A few hours ago, a tragic incident occurred where a boat carrying several Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island. Search and rescue operations are currently underway by local authorities, and accurate details of the incident are being collected.”

A control room has been set up at the Indian Consulate (Ho Chi Minh City) to provide assistance and information to the affected families. A separate control room has also been set up in Hanoi. Citing the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone administration, local media reported that the Ocean Pearl Island Company’s speedboat suddenly experienced a technical fault around 1 p.m. Saturday, capsizing it. Several nearby tourist boats rushed to the scene to assist with the rescue.
