French auto giant Citroen is planning to launch its third SUV in India after introducing its C5 Aircross and C3 Aircross. Citroen Basalt was recently spotted testing on Indian roads.
Citroen Basalt spotted during testing
The Basalt SUV is seen without any camouflage in the latest spy shots captured in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The images are likely of the entry-level variant of the SUV and completely showcase its exterior design elements. The Basalt SUV can be launched in India in the second half of this year.
The latest spy shots show the Citroen Basalt SUV from the rear and sides. Both the pictures capture the coupe-style design of the SUV with a sloping roofline, which is combined with the boot.
Design and dimensions
It gets black highlights around the windows from A pillar to C pillar, black ORVMs, black bumper at the rear and large wheel arches on the sides with wrap-around taillights. Alloy wheels are not provided in the testing vehicle. However, the SUV is expected to come with a choice of 15-inch or 16-inch alloy wheel sets when launched.
Previous spy shots of the Citroen Basalt SUV have already revealed what the front fascia of the vehicle will look like. Broadly based on the Basalt Vision concept, the SUV will feature LED projector headlights at the front and DRLs, body-coloured bumpers with fog lamps and a slim grille with the Citroën logo.
Interior and Features
In terms of features, the Basalt SUV is likely to be offered with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, auto-dimming ORVM, rain-sensing wipers and keyless entry.
Engine and Performance
Citroen has not yet given much information about the powertrain of the Basalt SUV. However, the French carmaker is expected to equip the SUV with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor, which is also offered with the C3 Aircross SUV. The engine can be offered with a choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission units. This engine is capable of producing power of 109 bhp and peak torque of 205 Nm.
