There is good news for metro lovers. Especially if you are living in Bihar, then this article is for you. Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently checked in on the progress of the Patna Metro Rail Project. He toured various construction sites around Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, and Patna University. The goal is to launch the first phase of the metro by August 15, 2025, just in time for the assembly elections.

During his visit, officials briefed the Chief Minister on the current status and advancements of the project. They also updated him on the construction at Rajendra Nagar, Moinul Haq Stadium, Malahi Pakadi, Khemnichak, Pahari Par, Zero Mile Metro Station, and ISBT Metro Station.

Nitish Kumar emphasized the need for swift progress on the Patna Metro, urging officials to stick to the action plan. Once completed, the metro will greatly ease commuting for residents and help reduce congestion.

The Patna Metro Rail Project was greenlit on February 27, 2019, and will feature a total of 31.9 km of metro lines with 24 stations. The project is being carried out by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation under the oversight of Bihar’s Urban Development and Housing Department.

On November 21, 2023, they kicked off the construction of the underground metro line using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) starting from Gandhi Maidan station. This machine has already made its way to Patna Junction, passing through the Akashvani underground station. The goal is to prioritize the completion of the Patna Metro Line, which spans 6.01 km, connecting Malahi Pakadi to Khemnichak, Bhootnath Road, Zeromile, and the Pataliputra Bus Terminal. They aim to have this line up and running by August 15, 2025.
