New Delhi: India has secured a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 final after a thrilling victory over Australia in the semi-final. The match witnessed an unexpected incident when a fan breached security and ran onto the field moments after India’s win. The viral video of this incident has taken social media by storm.
Fan Invades Field to Hug KL Rahul
Chasing 265 runs, India reached the target in the 49th over, with KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was handed the responsibility of bowling the 49th over. On the very first ball, KL Rahul smashed a six, sealing India’s victory.
Right after the win, a fan managed to break security protocols and rushed onto the field. He ran straight to KL Rahul and hugged him. Rahul, showing great composure, did not react aggressively. However, security personnel immediately intervened and escorted the fan out of the stadium.
Records Broken in a Historic Match
India’s remarkable chase shattered multiple records. This was the fourth time in Champions Trophy history that a team successfully chased such a big total in a knockout match.
In the 1998 quarter-final, South Africa successfully chased 282 runs against England.
India had previously chased 265 runs against Bangladesh in the 2017 semi-final.
Now, in 2025, India has once again achieved the feat by chasing 265 runs against Australia.

Steve Smith’s Knock in Vain
Despite Steve Smith’s fighting innings, Australia couldn’t stop India’s charge. Smith played a patient knock, scoring 73 runs off 96 balls, including four boundaries and a six. However, his efforts were overshadowed by Virat Kohli’s match-winning performance. Kohli played a crucial role in India’s chase, scoring 84 runs off 98 balls, with five boundaries. His composed innings under pressure ensured India’s smooth path to the final.
With this win, India marches into the Champions Trophy 2025 final, keeping their hopes alive for another ICC trophy. Fans eagerly await the final showdown, where India will fight for the coveted title.
