In a recent media report, Devajit Saikia, BCCI secretary has informed that Iyer is doing well and has been shifted from the ICU to the general ward. He can take a few time to recover fully, but He’s recovering faster than the doctors expected.
“Shreyas is doing better than before. He’s recovering faster than the doctors expected… The doctors are satisfied with his progress. He (Iyer) has resumed his routine activities. His injury was serious, but he has recovered and is out of danger.”, Saikia informed.
How he injured himself
Shreyas suffered the injury during the third ODI in Sydney on October 25. In the 34th over of Australia’s innings, Alex Carey played an aerial shot off a delivery from Harshit Rana. Shreyas ran from point to the third man area and took a diving catch. He lost his balance and injured his left rib. According to media reports, the injury caused internal bleeding, so it will take longer for him to fully recover. Therefore, it is difficult to provide a specific timeline for his return. Shreyas (31) will have to remain in hospital for at least a week. He is not currently part of the Indian T20 squad. The BCCI said on Monday (October 27th) that a scan revealed a spleen injury. “Our medical team is closely monitoring Iyer’s injury in consultation with specialist doctors in Sydney and India,” the BCCI said. Indian team doctors will remain with Shreyas in Sydney for the next few days to monitor his daily progress. According to reports, his parents may arrive in Australia soon.
“We have been talking for two days now. He has been replying. If he is replying on the phone, it means he is stable. There is also a doctor there, so it is looking good. I mean, he is good. He is talking. Everything is normal. He said that he will take care of himself for a few more days. But he has been replying, talking to everyone, so it is good”, Suryakumar Yadav said before.
