Two matches were played between India and Pakistan on Sunday. One match was played in Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 and the other match was played in Blind Women’s T20 World Cup. In the Rising Stars match between India A and Pakistan A, the players did not shake hands with each other.
India vs Pakistan in Women’s T20 World Cup Blind match
Whereas, in the Women’s T20 World Cup Blind match, after winning, the Indian women’s team showed sportsmanship by shaking hands with the Pakistani players. It is known that after the Pahalgam attack, tension had increased between India and Pakistan due to Operation Sindoor, after which the team led by Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands with the Pakistani players in Asia Cup 2025.
After that, this trend has been broken now. India defeated Pakistan women’s cricket team by eight wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup Blind match at the Katunayake BOI ground in Colombo on Sunday. India achieved the target of 136 runs for the loss of two wickets in 10 overs and registered their fifth consecutive win in the tournament. In their second match of the tournament, Pakistan were all out for 135. Chasing the target, India scored quickly. Captain Deepika TC scored 45 and Anekha Devi made an unbeaten 64. Anekha’s innings earned her the Player of the Match award, and India qualified for the semi-finals.
Players did handshake
More than the result, one thing that was most talked about in this match was the players from both teams shaking hands, seemingly defying the widespread tensions between the two countries. The Indian and Pakistani blind teams greeted each other after the match, although they hadn’t previously shaken hands at the toss. The women’s teams with visual impairments not only shook hands at the end of the match, but also traveled together on the same bus to the match venue and congratulated each other. Pakistan captain Nimra Rafiq congratulated India, while Indian captain TC Deepika said Pakistan played well. Both teams applauded each other, but were not allowed to speak to the media.
