Following Virat Kohli’s century in Indore, his brother Vikas Kohli has once again taken a dig at Sanjay Manjrekar. A debate has raged on social media over Manjrekar’s comments, in which he described ODIs as an easy format for top-order batsmen and expressed disappointment over Kohli’s decision to play only 50-over cricket.

What is the controversy about?

Some time ago, Sanjay Manjrekar, reacting to Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket, said that he was disappointing by playing only ODIs. Manjrekar’s words were, “ODIs are the easiest format for a top-order batsman. Virat Kohli has retired from Test cricket, and that’s unfortunate. He struggled for five years, and his Test average kept falling.”

Virat Kohli then scored 124 runs off 108 balls against New Zealand in Indore. While the team couldn’t achieve the target, the century sparked a debate on social media. Vikas Kohli wrote on the thread, “Mr. Expert of Cricket, does he have any suggestions for the easiest format? You have to be on the field to do it, it’s easier said than done.”

This post was clearly a dig at Manjrekar’s comment. Manjrekar. After Virat Kohli’s 93-run innings in Vadodara, he wrote, “ODIs are such an easy format… Someone shared some wisdom a few days ago… It’s easy to say, but not to do.”

In another post, he wrote, “It seems some people can’t survive without mentioning Virat Kohli.” Fans took these statements as a direct attack on Manjrekar, although Vikas didn’t mention him.
