The squad BCCI selects for the T20I World Cup 2026, has created a lot of buzz around Indian cricket fans. The selectors choose Sanju Samson over Abhishek Sharma as the keeper-batter, along with Ishan Kishan who recently won Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with Jharkhand as the captain of the team. After squad selection, an old social media post of Gautam Gambhir again attracted the attention.
A years-old social media post by Gautam Gambhir is rapidly going viral. At the time, the current head coach made a bold statement about Sanju Samson. Reflecting on his performance, he said, “I generally don’t like to discuss players personally, but given his skills, I’m happy to say Sanju Samson is India’s best wicketkeeper-batsman right now. In my opinion, he should bat at number four in the World Cup.”
Now the question arises: why is this years-old post of Gambhir going viral? The reason behind this is his recent tactics. Sanju Samson has been in form as an opening batsman in the last few matches. However, recently, the team has placed more trust in Shubman Gill than Samson. As a result, he was dropped from the playing eleven after a few matches.
Fans were disappointed with Samson’s absence from the playing eleven and were targeting Gambhir. But Gambhir, though late, realized his mistake in time. The selectors have chosen Sanju Samson to open the innings alongside Abhishek Bachchan for the 2026 T20 World Cup, delighting fans. Furthermore, Gambhir’s six-year-old post, in which he predicted Samson’s World Cup participation, has gone viral.
Here is the old post of Gautam Gambhir
I normally don’t like to talk about individuals in cricket. But seeing his skills I am glad to note that Sanju Samson is currently the best Wicketkeeper batsman in India. For me he should be batting number 4 in the World Cup @BCCI @rajasthanroyals @IPL @StarSportsIndia
