In Uttar Pradesh, the government runs various pension schemes aimed at assisting the economically disadvantaged elderly, widowed women, and individuals with disabilities. At present, over 6.7 million elderly residents in the state are directly benefiting from these initiatives.

If you or a family member wishes to take advantage of this scheme, the rules, required documents, and the complete application process are outlined below in straightforward language.

Main pension schemes available in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government provides three primary types of social security pensions. In all cases, the pension amount is deposited directly into the bank account (through DBT)-

  • For seniors aged 60 and above, this offers Rs 1,000 per month (or Rs 12,000 annually).
  • For women over 18 whose husbands have passed away, they receive Rs 1,000 monthly.
  • For individuals aged 18 and older with a disability of 40% or more, Rs 1,000 per month (Rs 3,000 monthly for leprosy patients).

Who can avail this benefit?

The government has established some crucial criteria for receiving a pension:

Resident of UP: The applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.

What is the Income Limit?

For villagers: The total annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 46,080.
For city dwellers: The total annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 56,460.
For Widows: The family income limit for widow pension is capped at Rs 2,00,000 per year.
No other pension: The applicant should not be receiving any other government pension (such as from Railway, Army, or any other State/Central scheme).

Important Documents

Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government has made a notable change to the rules. An Aadhaar card alone will no longer suffice for age verification. Aadhaar will now only serve as proof of identity and address. You will need to submit the following additional documents for age verification. Aadhar Card, Voter ID or Ration Card, High school/intermediate marksheet. If the senior citizen is illiterate, they must provide a voter ID, ration card, or a self-declared age verification affidavit, Income Certificate issued by the Tehsildar of the Tehsil, Passbook of active bank account linked with Aadhaar card, Death certificate of husband for widow pension and disability certificate issued by hospital for disability pension, Passport size photo.

How to apply?

  1. Step 1. First of all go to the official website of Integrated Social Pension Portal of Uttar Pradesh Government sspy-up.gov.in.
  2. Step 2. On the homepage, you will see three options: Old Age Pension, Destitute Women Pension, or Disability Pension. Click on the appropriate option based on your needs and then select “Apply Online.”
  3. Step 3. Register by entering your district, mobile number, and Aadhaar number. Then, fill in your personal information, bank account number, IFSC code, and income certificate details accurately in the form that opens.
  4. Step 4 : Upload your scanned passport-size photo and all the required documents listed above (such as income certificates and age proof) in the correct size. After thoroughly checking the form, click ‘Submit’.
