Shubman Gill is fit ahead of India vs South Africa T20I series

A media report quoting a source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has claimed that Gill will be a part of Team India in the T20 series against South Africa. Another media report has claimed that Gill may not play in the first match of the series but will return to the team from the second or third match.

Shubman Gill traveled with the team to Guwahati, where the second Test was scheduled, after suffering an injury in the Kolkata Test. It is reported that Gill has participated in several batting sessions at the CoE and will continue to increase his workload in the coming days. The CoE medical team has also added fielding and catching drills to his schedule. The report also states that Gill has not yet been cleared by the CoE medical team to play the match, but is expected to undergo match simulation within the next 48 hours. The medical team has not yet issued any red flags regarding his fitness.

Media report claims that Gill will be included in the squad, but a player will be added as his “rider.” This arrangement will be to replace Gill in the match if he is unable to prove his fitness. This rider is likely to be Yashasvi Jaiswal. Reports further claim that Ajit Agarkar, chairman of Team India’s senior selection committee, has been informed of Gill’s current fitness status and that there are no immediate restrictions on his playing time.
