UP Electricity Bill Update: If you are a resident of Uttar Pradesh, you are in for a shock of inflation starting this June, which will hit your wallet hard. This blow comes in the form of an increase in electricity bills. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has announced a 10 per cent hike in the fuel surcharge.
These revised rates will come into effect alongside the monthly electricity bills. This follows price hikes last week for essentials such as milk, petrol, diesel, and CNG—increases that had already placed a significant financial burden on the public. Now, electricity has also become more expensive in UP, meaning consumers will have to pay higher bills starting next month.
The UP Power Corporation Limited has decided to levy an additional 10 per cent charge on electricity bills. An increase in electricity rates—at a time when power cuts are already prevalent—feels like a double blow to consumers.
A Major Blow from UPPCL
Starting next month, electricity consumers in UP are set to face a major shock. The UP Power Corporation Limited has decided to collect an additional levy of up to 1 per cent on electricity bills. This increase is a direct result of the hike in the fuel surcharge.
According to the issued order, this increased charge will be added to the electricity bills generated for June. Consequently, consumers will be required to pay an additional 10 per cent amount over and above their regular electricity bills.
Why Have Prices Increased?
This decision by the government is set to impact lakhs of domestic, commercial, and other categories of electricity consumers. According to the Electricity Department, the fuel surcharge is being imposed to offset the additional costs incurred in the generation and procurement of electricity. Under this mechanism, a separate fee will be added to consumers’ bills. Speculation regarding a potential hike in electricity rates had been circulating for some time, and the department has now officially confirmed it.
Power Cuts Remain a Problem in Many Areas
It is worth noting that the decision to hike electricity rates has been taken at a time when numerous complaints regarding power cuts are pouring in from various parts of UP. Furthermore, amidst the surging demand typical of the summer season, consumers are already grappling with a power crisis and issues related to irregular supply. In such a scenario, the 10 per cent additional burden on electricity bills will have a direct impact on the pockets of ordinary consumers.
