Daryl Mitchell Second New Zealander to hold the No.1 Spot: New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has overtaken Rohit Sharma to take the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings. However, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah remains at the top spot in the Test bowlers’ rankings. Daryl Mitchell scored 119 runs in the first match of the ODI series against West Indies on November 16. This was the seventh century of his ODI career. But due to a back injury, he was ruled out of the remaining matches of the series.

Daryl Mitchell is the new No. 1 ODI batter

Daryl Mitchell is only the second Kiwi player to achieve the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings. Prior to Mitchell, Glenn Turner reached the top spot in the men’s ODI batting rankings in 1979, becoming the first New Zealand player to do so. This marks the end of Rohit Sharma’s 22-day reign. Mitchell jumped two places to surpass Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and India’s Rohit Sharma.

Fellow New Zealand players Martin Crowe, Andrew Jones, Roger Twose, Nathan Astle, Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor all spent time in the top five of the ODI batsmen’s rankings during their illustrious careers, but only Turner and now Mitchell have held the No. 1 spot.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Babar Azam has risen to sixth place after scoring 102 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman have risen to 22nd and 26th positions respectively after scoring two half-centuries each in the series.

Rank of Jasprit Bumrah

In the Test rankings, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who took a total of six wickets against South Africa, has retained his top spot. Kuldeep Yadav has moved up two places to a career-best 13th. Ravindra Jadeja has climbed four places to 15th. South African off-spinner Simon Harmer, who took eight wickets at Eden Gardens, has climbed 20 places to a career-best 24th.
