New Delhi: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has expressed his desire to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports, Amir is hoping to participate in IPL by 2026. However, due to the ban on Pakistani cricketers in IPL, Amir is exploring other options to make his dream a reality.

How Can Mohammad Amir Play in IPL Despite the Ban?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not allow Pakistani cricketers to participate in IPL due to political tensions and past incidents of match-fixing. However, Amir has a unique route to enter IPL. His wife, Narjis, is a UK citizen, and Amir has already applied for British citizenship.

If he successfully acquires UK nationality, he will no longer be a Pakistan-registered player. This could allow him to enter IPL under the category of an overseas player, bypassing the ban on Pakistani cricketers.

In a statement, Amir said:

“Pakistani cricketers are banned from playing in IPL, but former Pakistani players are allowed to do commentary. If I get an opportunity, I will play in IPL next year.”
