The fifth and final match of the ongoing T20 series between India and Australia will be played on Saturday, October 8th, at the Gabba in Brisbane. By winning the fourth T20, Team India has taken a 2-1 lead in the series. Now, the Indian team will enter the final match with the intention of defeating Australia and winning the series 3-1. In this match, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will have a chance to create history. By taking just one wicket, Bumrah will achieve a feat that no Indian has achieved to date.
Jasprit Bumrah will create new history
India’s most reliable fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has taken 99 wickets in 79 T20 Internationals so far at an average of 18.11. Bumrah is currently India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, behind Arshdeep Singh (105 wickets). If Bumrah takes a wicket in the final T20I against Australia in Brisbane, he will become the second Indian bowler to reach 100 T20I wickets.
With this, Jasprit Bumrah will become the first Indian bowler to take 100 or more wickets across all formats (Test, ODI, T20). No Indian has ever achieved this feat. Bumrah has taken 226 wickets in 50 Test matches at an average of 19.83. In ODIs, he has 149 wickets in 89 matches.
Additionally, if Jasprit Bumrah takes one more wicket in this match, he will become the sixth fastest fast bowler from a Full Member nation to reach 100 wickets in T20Is. Currently, this record is held by Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman, who achieved this feat in 81 innings. Bumrah also has an excellent record against Australia. He has taken 20 wickets in 17 T20I innings.
Bumrah has performed brilliantly in this T20 series so far, taking three wickets in three matches. The first match of the series was a rain-related draw, preventing him from bowling. He took two wickets in Melbourne, while he went wicketless in Hobart. Following this, he took one wicket in the match in Queensland. India currently leads the five-match T20 series 2-1. Now, India will be eyeing a win in Brisbane and a 3-1 series win.
