The dates for the mini auction for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season 19 are set to be announced soon. All 10 teams are required to release lists of retained and released players before November 15th. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made a significant move, appointing former Australian captain and legendary all-rounder Shane Watson as their new assistant coach. This move by the multi-time IPL franchise is considered as a massive movement ahead of fresh IPL season.

Queensland’s Shane Watson, who has played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20 Internationals, previously served in the same role with the Delhi Capitals (DC) under Ricky Ponting. After a three-year hiatus, he is returning to the IPL coaching role, providing KKR with the potential to benefit greatly from his extensive experience and strategic understanding.

The appointment is a significant move for KKR, who finished eighth in the 2025 IPL season. Watson will now work closely with head coach Abhishek Nayar, while Dwayne Bravo will remain as the team’s mentor.
The 44-year-old Watson has played in the IPL for 12 years, representing Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He led Rajasthan Royals to a resounding victory in the inaugural IPL series in 2008. He won the MVP award that season and returned to the championship with CSK in 2013.
