With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma team India played well and won the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi. After the important win, it is reported that the BCCI has called a meeting where head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to take their chairs.

What is the purpose of the meeting?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called an important meeting of the team management, including Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. This meeting will take place in Raipur on Wednesday.

The second ODI between India and South Africa is scheduled for the same day. The meeting will take place before the match. According to a Sportstar report, the board will seek clarification from Gambhir and Agarkar regarding Test cricket strategy, team selection, and the management’s relationship with senior players. The meeting will also seek clarification on the team management’s treatment and communication with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

According to a media report, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, Joint Secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and National Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar will attend the meeting. It is unclear whether BCCI President Mithun Manhas will attend. Since the meeting is on the same day as the match, senior players are unlikely to attend.

According to a senior BCCI official, the objective of the meeting is to ensure coordination between the selectors and the team management, consistency in selection and improving the performance of the team. The official admitted that the board is concerned by recent developments in the Test format.

He said, “During the home Test season, there were instances of confusion regarding on-field and off-field strategies. We want clarity and forward planning, especially with the next Test series eight months away.” The meeting will not only focus on matters related to Test cricket. Adhikari admitted that the way the current team management is treating senior limited-overs players has caused unease.
