Platform Ticket Update: As the festive season approaches, many people plan to travel home. During Diwali and Chhath Puja, there is a significant surge in the number of passengers. To manage the crowds and ensure passenger safety, Central Railway has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of platform tickets at certain railway stations in Mumbai.
This measure will be in effect from November 5 to November 15. During this period, only passengers with valid train tickets will be permitted to enter the platforms and station premises at these specific locations. Let’s take a closer look at these stations.
Where will platform tickets be unavailable?
Central Railway has suspended the sale of platform tickets at five railway stations in Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Thane, and Kalyan. This restriction will remain in place from November 5 to November 15. Consequently, individuals will not be able to obtain platform tickets to access the platforms during this period.
Who is exempt?
According to the Railways, certain individuals may still access the platforms. This includes those assisting the elderly, individuals caring for the sick, those helping children, and women passengers who require assistance at the station.
Why has the railways taken this decision?
During the Diwali and Chhath Puja period, a large number of people travel by train to return home. This often leads to overcrowding at railway stations in Mumbai, as many people arrive to see off their loved ones. Managing such large crowds on the platforms becomes challenging; therefore, the railways have implemented this decision to control congestion and ensure the smooth movement of passengers within the stations.
