India Post Deceased Claim Portal: When a family member passes away, accessing funds held in their bank or post office accounts often involves a complex process. Frequently, a lack of clarity regarding the required documentation or the claim procedure forces family members to make multiple visits to the post office. To provide relief in such situations, India Post has introduced a ‘Deceased Claim Portal’.
This portal allows for the initiation of claims related to a deceased person’s post office accounts or savings schemes—including Public Provident Fund (PPF), National Savings Certificates (NSC), and standard savings accounts—entirely online. Users can begin the application process from the comfort of their homes and access information about the necessary documentation online.
What is the India Post Deceased Claim Portal?
The Deceased Claim Portal is an online facility that enables family members or legal heirs to file claims for funds held in a post office account following the account holder’s death. Previously, claimants often had to visit the post office repeatedly to understand the required paperwork and the overall procedure; now, the application can be submitted from home.
Features of the Portal
The portal allows users to submit applications online without needing to visit a post office. It also provides guidance on the required documentation. Once an application is submitted, the claimant will receive a notification via mobile message regarding the approval of the claim, allowing them to track the status of their application. Following the online submission, the original documents may be verified. The portal is accessible for users in various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal.
What documents are required?
Required documents typically include a death certificate, proof of identity (such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or Voter ID card), and the relevant passbook or savings certificate. Additionally, documents pertaining to legal heirs are required. If no nominee was appointed for the account, you may be asked to provide further documentation or signatures.
