Free Gas Cylinder: Great news for the people of Uttar Pradesh! Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a significant gift for poor families for the occasions of Diwali and Holi. Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will now receive free LPG cylinders. A subsidy amounting to Rs 1,500 crore has been transferred directly into their bank accounts.
More than 1.89 crore families covered under the PMUY will receive free LPG cylinders twice a year—once for Diwali and once for Holi. This announcement was made on Tuesday, November 3, in Lucknow, during an event focused on the distribution of LPG refill subsidies.
Budget of Rs 1,500 crore
The Yogi government has allocated a budget of Rs 1,500 crore. From the stage, CM Yogi explained the cost breakdown for a cylinder:
Price of one domestic LPG cylinder: Rs 983.45
Central government subsidy: Rs 335.00
Amount to be paid by the beneficiary: Rs 648.55
For Diwali and Holi, the government will also cover this remaining amount of Rs 648.55, making the cylinder completely free on these two occasions.
Important steps to avail of the free cylinder
If you have not yet completed your e-KYC, you may face a delay in receiving your subsidy payment. Biometric Aadhaar verification has been mandatory since October 1. Please complete your e-KYC via your gas agency using fingerprint authentication; only then will the subsidy be credited to your bank account. To check if your name is on the list, visit pmuy.gov.in and enter your connection number.

Gas subsidy under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
To avail the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, it is mandatory for gas connection holders to complete their e-KYC. Additionally, it is also required to have one’s Aadhaar linked to their bank account. Under a scheme provided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, beneficiaries receive free LPG cylinder refills twice a year—during the festivals of Holi and Diwali. The objective of this scheme is to provide relief from inflation to needy families during the festive season.
