Platform Tickets Suspended at 5 Stations Till March 3

Platform Ticket: To handle the influx of travelers returning home for the Holi festival at railway stations, the Railways has implemented a temporary prohibition on the sale of platform tickets at five key stations in the Delhi area. This measure will be in place from February 26 to March 3, 2026.

During this time, the sale of platform tickets will be temporarily halted at major railway stations in Delhi: New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla. Exemptions have been made for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, the ill, and women passengers. The Railways has recommended that travelers arrive at the station punctually and steer clear of crowded areas.

Railway officials have explained that these measures are designed to manage crowds under typical conditions, minimize unnecessary movement, and assist genuine passengers. Nevertheless, specific groups of passengers are exempt from these restrictions during this period.

Senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, sick passengers, and family members accompanying single female travelers will not be subject to the platform ticket ban. For security and crowd control, the Railways has required that only designated gates be utilized for entry into the station premises. Additionally, the Railways has stated that extra staff and security personnel will be deployed, if needed, to guarantee a seamless travel experience during the festival.

Why was this decision taken?

During Holi, trains heading to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states are overcrowded. Platforms are crowded with passengers, as well as those waiting to see them off. Sometimes, the situation becomes so severe that pushing and shoving and chaos prevail. The Railways believes that eliminating platform tickets will reduce unnecessary crowding and provide relief to those who truly need to travel.

Remember these things before traveling

  1. Reach the station well in advance as security checks and crowds may take longer.
  2. Enter only through the designated entry gate.
  3. Keep your luggage light so that you don’t face any problem in the crowd.
