A job in the Prime Minister’s Office is on every government worker’s and every rising professional’s dream list. The PMO ranks among India’s elite executive institutions, and everyone would love to know how to work there and what pay the workers receive. While it appears alluring on the outside, PMO hiring is a systematic and planned affair.

How to Get a Job in the PMO

Most of the positions in the PMO are not directly recruited. Rather, more than 90 percent of the officers are deputed from other government departments. This implies that officers who are already serving in ministries or government organizations are shifted to serve in the PMO on a fixed duration. Senior-level slots such as Principal Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, Director, and Deputy Secretary are usually occupied by experienced senior IAS officers.

For assistant level posts like clerks or assistants, the recruitment frequently takes place through SSC exams like CGL and MTS. Candidates who pass these examinations are later posted in the PMO. Sometimes the PMO also recruits Young Professionals or interns on a contractual basis for an assigned project. These temporary positions are advertised on the official PMO website.
