Jitiya Vrat 2026 Puja Samagri (Worship Materials)
Kush grass (to make the idol of Jimutavahan), cow dung, Akshat (unbroken rice grains), Peda (sweet), a garland of Durva grass, betel leaf and areca nut, cloves and cardamom, items for adornment (Shringar), vermilion (Sindoor), flowers, knotted thread, incense and lamp (Dhoop-Deep), sweets, fruits, bamboo leaves, mustard oil, etc.
The Jitiya Vrat begins on October 2 with ‘Nahay-Khay’. On this day, mothers consume sattvic food after bathing. In many regions, there is a tradition of eating *Kaddu-Bhat* (pumpkin and rice). They also take the vow (Sankalp) to observe the fast on this day.
Othgan
There is a tradition of consuming ‘Othgan’—also known as Sargi—before sunrise on October 3. Following this, women observe a Nirjala fast (abstaining from both food and water) throughout the day and until the time of breaking the fast the following day.
