Today’s Weather: The weather is about to change again, disrupting normal life. Smog has made life miserable in the capital, Delhi, and the surrounding areas. Rising pollution levels are now making breathing difficult. One hour spent outside is equivalent to inhaling the smoke equivalent of smoking fifty cigarettes.
A layer of smoke and haze has formed in the sky. People are now considering it safer to leave their homes wearing masks. There is talk that the government may induce artificial rain in Delhi to relieve the smog and smoke. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area is forming near the Andaman coast. It is expected to become a major storm by Monday. Due to this, heavy rainfall is predicted in several states across the country.
Heavy Rains Expected in These States
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, caution has been advised in Odisha due to this weather system forming in the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has also issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu within two days. Given the worsening situation in the state, artificial rain is also likely to be induced in Delhi-NCR.
The government’s goal is to relieve the smog and smoke in Delhi-NCR, thereby improving air quality. A rain warning has been issued for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on October 28th. Due to a cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain warnings have been issued for some districts, including Cuddalore, Puducherry, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu.
Alert issued here, too.
According to the Meteorological Department, a pressure system is developing in the southeast and adjacent central Bay of Bengal by October 25th. A cyclone is expected to develop here by Monday morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for light to moderate rain in 21 districts on Saturday and Sunday.
A yellow alert has also been issued for this. The IMD has predicted heavy rains in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram and Howrah in South Bengal between October 28 and 30.
