Weather Alert – All parts of North India are currently reeling under a severe cold wave. From children to the elderly, people are confined to their homes, huddling around fires for warmth. They are only venturing out for essential tasks. The plummeting temperatures and dense fog covering the ground have also become a major obstacle for transportation.
Driving has become extremely difficult. Towns and cities in Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and the plains of Uttarakhand are shrouded in fog. Many areas in Bihar and the Delhi-NCR region are also covered in a blanket of fog. On the other hand, the increased activity of Western Disturbances is raising the threat of rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for various parts of the country.

Cold Wave to Intensify in These Areas
According to the Meteorological Department, a warning has been issued for dense fog, rain, and snowfall. A light to moderate rainfall alert has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for the next 5 days. The weather is expected to remain inclement until December 28th.
A warning of scattered rainfall has been issued for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on December 28th. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 27th and 28th. Due to two Western Disturbances in the northwestern region, a warning of increased cold has been issued for Delhi. Dense fog is also expected to slow down life in the capital.

Fog Alert
Dense fog has become a major problem in several areas of Uttar Pradesh. A red alert for dense fog has been issued for Agra, Bareilly, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Gorakhpur in the state. Dense fog is also expected in Lucknow, Varanasi, and Ballia. Besides these, dense fog is also expected in North, North East, North West, Shahdara, South, and South East Delhi. A red alert for fog has been issued for South West and West Delhi.
Rainfall Expected in These Areas
The IMD has issued a light to moderate rainfall alert for some areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and South Karnataka. Several areas of Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry are likely to experience rainfall, and a thunderstorm warning has also been issued.
