Before the fourth season of the Women’s Premier League, Delhi Capitals have taken a big decision and have decided to change the captain of their team. Meg Lanning was the captain of the team for the last two years but now this responsibility is going to be given to Jemimah Rodrigues. The official announcement of this decision will be made on 23 December.

The Delhi franchise entered the mega auction of WPL 2026 after releasing former captain Meg Lanning from the team for a two-year term, while the team retained Indian batsman and vice-captain Jemimah in its team. Rodrigues has played all 27 matches for the Delhi Capitals over the past three seasons.

Notable stats of Jemimah Rodrigues

In these matches, Jemimah has scored 507 runs in 24 innings at an average of 28.16 and a strike rate of 139.66. It’s worth noting that Jemimah played a key role in India’s first World Cup victory this year. She scored an unbeaten 127 against Australia in the semi-final, helping the team reach the final. India chased down a target of 340 in that match.

Last night, Rodrigues created history by scoring a brilliant unbeaten 69-run half-century in the first T20 match (IN-W vs SL-W 1st T20) against Sri Lanka on Sunday, December 22. Significantly, with this, she equaled a major record held by the legendary batsman Mithali Raj. Jemimah, batting at number 3 for Team India, scored 69 not out off 44 balls, hitting 10 fours. With this, Jemimah has now become the player with the most 50-plus scores in T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka, equaling the record of former Indian captain Mithali Raj.

International record for the batter

Jemimah achieved this feat by scoring fifty-plus scores for the fourth time in 14 T20I innings against Sri Lanka. Mithali Raj also scored four fifty-plus scores in 14 T20I innings against Sri Lanka. Besides these two players, Smriti Mandhana (3 fifty-plus scores in 21 innings) is third, and Harmanpreet Kaur (2 fifty-plus scores in 20 innings) is fourth on this list.
