The increasing number of pilgrims at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj is now affecting railway stations. Due to the rising crowd at Prayagraj station, railway authorities are struggling to manage train operations. In a major disruption for passengers travelling to Prayagraj, Indian Railways has cancelled multiple trains from Bihar and Chhattisgarh until February 23. Among them, the Durg-Chhapra Sarnath Express (Train No. 15159/15160) will remain suspended from February 19 to February 21. This train, which passes through Prayagraj, is an important route for passengers travelling to the city. Its cancellation has caused inconvenience to many travellers.

Overcrowding at Mahakumbh Causes Travel Disruptions

So far, around 50 crore devotees have performed the holy Sangam Snan at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj and returned home, facing overcrowded transport, long waiting times, and limited facilities.

As Mahakumbh continues until February 26, lakhs of devotees from across the country are still travelling to Prayagraj. Due to the huge crowd at Prayagraj and nearby railway stations, railway authorities are struggling to manage passengers and train movements. This has led to the cancellation of multiple trains.

More Trains Canceled Until February 23

Apart from the Sarnath Express, the Railways has also cancelled these trains:

  • Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj Passenger (Train No. 55098/55097) – Suspended until February 23
  • Gorakhpur-Patliputra Express (Train No. 15080) – Canceled until February 22

The main reason for these cancellations is the large number of passengers travelling to Prayagraj for religious events, including Mahashivratri celebrations.

Route Changes for Some Trains

Along with cancellations, the Swatantrata Senani Superfast Express from Jaynagar to New Delhi via Prayagraj has had its route changed. This train will not pass through Prayagraj until February 28 due to the high number of special Mela trains at Prayagraj Jhansi Railway Station.

Passengers with reserved tickets for cancelled trains will automatically receive refunds in their bank accounts, according to the Railways.

Heavy Crowd Expected in Prayagraj

A large number of devotees from Bihar and Chhattisgarh are travelling to Prayagraj for religious gatherings, leading to overcrowding in trains. With multiple train cancellations, passengers may face difficulties in reaching their destinations. Travellers are advised to check the latest updates from Indian Railways before planning their journey.
