New Delhi: It now appears that Iran’s primary target is the United States rather than Israel. Indeed, the U.S. and Israel have already reduced numerous Iranian sites to rubble through heavy bombardment. They have relentlessly wreaked havoc by dropping bombs on Iranian military bases and oil fields. However, amidst these fierce attacks, an incident occurred that triggered a state of alarm—not only across the Gulf nations but as far away as the United States.
According to a report by *The Washington Post*, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth were present at that very base at the time. Specifically, both Senator Rubio and Secretary Hegseth were on the premises when a drone was observed hovering over the military installation.
Tensions Rise Over Suspicious Drone
According to *The Washington Post* report, U.S. officials held consultations following the sighting of the suspicious drone. Consideration was given to relocating Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth to a different location. However, no information has surfaced confirming whether or not they were actually relocated.
Meanwhile, Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Sean Parnell declined to provide any details regarding the movements or activities of Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth. He cited security concerns as the reason for this refusal. “For security reasons, I cannot comment on Pete Hegseth’s movements,” stated Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Sean Parnell.
Reporting Deemed Irresponsible
He also characterised the reporting of such activities as irresponsible. According to the report, a high-level meeting was convened at the White House following the sighting of the drone at the army base. In the wake of this meeting, a high alert was issued for U.S. military forces. This measure was taken in anticipation of potential retaliatory actions from Iran.
Rising Tensions in the Middle East
It is worth noting that, at present, there appears to be no diplomatic path toward a resolution in the ongoing conflict between the U.S.-Israel alliance and Iran. The situation continues to deteriorate. For its part, Iran is also launching missiles and drones, targeting U.S. military bases.
