New Delhi: Although it is the month of April, the weather feels more like February. Due to rainfall across North India, temperatures have dropped, prompting people to start wearing warm clothing during the mornings and evenings. The decline in temperatures across Western UP, Delhi-NCR, and various other regions has begun to cause discomfort for residents.
The situation remains challenging in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kashmir due to snowfall. However, there is hope that various parts of North India may soon find relief from the adverse weather conditions. Meanwhile, inclement weather is expected to persist in Odisha, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an alert has been issued for rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning across several parts of the country. Read on below to find out what the weather will be like in specific regions.

Weather in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh
According to the IMD, a warning for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning has been issued for several Indian states over the next five days. The IMD has specifically forecast heavy rainfall for Sikkim, Assam, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. During this period, winds are also expected to blow at speeds reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour in these regions.
Over the next six days, Central India is likely to witness a gradual rise in temperatures, ranging from 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. In most parts of Northwest, Central, and East India, temperatures are expected to hover close to normal levels.
Weather in Delhi and UP
According to the Meteorological Department, no major drastic changes are expected in Delhi’s weather. An alert has been issued indicating that, for the coming week, the sun will continue to play hide-and-seek amidst light clouds in the sky. This mix of sunshine and clouds during the day is expected to offer residents some relief from the heat.

A mild chill is also expected to persist during the morning and evening hours. On April 10—that is, today—the weather is expected to remain completely clear. Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department, Uttar Pradesh is likely to find relief from storms and rainfall over the next few days. However, weather patterns may shift around April 15 due to the influence of another active Western Disturbance.
Weather in Bihar
Over the past few days, storms and rainfall in Bihar have caused temperatures to drop, bringing back a distinct wintry chill. Strong winds, blowing at speeds ranging from 30 to 70 kilometres per hour, are likely in certain parts of the state. The influence of the Western Disturbance is now expected to subside in several districts across the state. The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain in the districts of Araria, Purnia, Katihar, and Kishanganj.
Weather Conditions in Odisha
According to the IMD, a warning has been issued for moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Odisha during April 9 and 10. Strong winds, with speeds ranging from 30 to 50 kilometres per hour, are also anticipated. The Meteorological Department further predicts that on April 11, Jammu and Kashmir may witness a spell of snowfall along with scattered to moderate light rainfall. Additionally, an alert has been issued for strong winds—blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour—accompanied by thunderstorms.
Possibility of Rain in Other States
According to the Meteorological Department, a warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for several states across Northeast India. The IMD indicates a strong possibility of heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh between April 9 and 13. Furthermore, there is a likelihood of lightning strikes in Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura during April 10 and 11. Hailstorms and heavy downpours are also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, and Meghalaya through April 12.
