On Saturday afternoon, around 1 pm, earthquake tremors were felt in Pakistan, which increased the heartbeat of the people. In many areas of the neighboring country, Jammu and Kashmir, people have also reported earthquakes. Scientists have measured the strength of this earthquake to be 5.8 on the Richter scale. Its central location was 12 kilometers below the ground in Pakistan, which falls at 33.63 degrees north latitude and 72.46 degrees east longitude.

Eyewitnesses said that as soon as the earth shook, people ran out of their homes in fear. However, thank God, there is no news of anyone dying or any damage anywhere so far. Did you read? What will she do with the 4 crore rupees received from the government?

The National Earthquake Monitoring Center of Pakistan Meteorological Department said the earthquake struck the country around 12:31 pm. The earthquake’s epicentre was about 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi, 12 kilometers below the surface. People also felt it in Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali and surrounding areas of Punjab. Tremors were also felt in Peshawar, Mardan, Mohmand and Shabqadar of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Mild earthquakes often occur in Pakistan, but the terrible earthquake that occurred in 2005 killed more than 74,000 people.

Why do earthquakes occur, brother?

Look, there are layers of large rocks under our Earth, which are called tectonic plates. These plates keep moving slowly. When they collide, rub or move away from each other, a lot of energy is accumulated inside. When this suppressed force is suddenly released, the earth starts shaking – an earthquake! The place where this shaking starts is called the ‘epicentre’. Sometimes earthquakes can also occur due to volcanic eruptions or some human activities, such as heavy digging or building of large dams. The Richter scale tells how strong the earthquake was.

What should one do if there is an earthquake? Life is everything!

One should remain alert during an earthquake; do not panic!

If you are inside the house, immediately go under something substantial, such as a table or desk, and protect your head.

Stay away from windows, mirrors and heavy objects.

If you are outside, go to an open place, but stay away from electric wires and tall buildings.

If you are in a vehicle, stop the car on the side and stay inside.

After the earthquake, check whether there is any gas leakage or fire. If any building has collapsed, do not go near it.
Keep an emergency kit ready, which contains essential items and documents. Keep a cool head!
