The Indian government has imposed an immediate ban on all imports from Pakistan following the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. As per a notification by the Commerce Ministry, a new clause has been added to the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, prohibiting all direct/indirect imports or transit of goods from Pakistan until further notice.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) stated that the ban aligns with national security and public interest. Any exemptions will now require special approval from the government.
The amended FTP explicitly states: “Import/transit of all goods—whether freely importable or otherwise—originating from or exported through Pakistan stands prohibited with immediate effect.”
