New Delhi: A heart-wrenching incident has emerged from the city of Cuttack, Odisha, leaving everyone shaken. Panic and screams erupted following a massive fire in the ICU ward of the Trauma Care unit at the S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. This tragedy claimed the lives of 10 people, while several others sustained severe injuries.
The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical, raising fears that the death toll could rise further. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his deep anguish over the tragic accident and visited the hospital to inquire about the well-being of the victims.
People Terrified by the Flames
A fire broke out on Monday morning in the Trauma Care ICU of the Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, plunging the area into chaos. Within moments, seven patients died on the spot, while three others passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Thus far, the accident has claimed a total of 10 lives.
Fire department personnel and local police officers rushed to the scene and, after a strenuous effort, successfully brought the fire under control. They managed to rescue the trapped individuals—albeit with great difficulty—and admitted them to the hospital. During the evacuation process, approximately 11 hospital staff members also sustained burn injuries.
Compensation Announced
On Monday morning, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he met with the families of the deceased and the injured to offer his condolences and support. He sought detailed information regarding the incident from hospital administrators and police officials. During this visit, the State Government announced a compensation package of ₹25 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
