New Delhi: An Earthquake shook the earth again in many parts of South America, causing panic among people. A strong earthquake shook life in the far southern parts of Chile and Argentina. The magnitude of the quake was recorded at 7.4. Its epicentre was in the Drake Passage, located in the sea about two hundred kilometres from the Argentine city of Ushuaia.

The earthquake was so severe that continuous tremors were felt even later, and a tsunami alert has been issued. Authorities have also issued a high-level alert in the coastal areas of Chile and Argentina. Especially for the Magallanes region of Chile, President Gabriel Boric has issued guidelines to evacuate the coastline. He has shared this information by tweeting through X.

What was the depth of the earthquake?

Talking about the depth of the earthquake in South America, it was kilometres. It is very close to the surface. This is the reason that its effects were felt very fast and widely. According to local media reports, people were ordered to move to places above 30 miles.

This caused panic among the gathered people. An atmosphere of fear prevailed in markets, streets and parks. One of the most affected areas has been ChiPorto Williams. So far, more than 1,100 people have been evacuated to safer places. Rescue agencies and relief teams have become active. On the other hand, Chile’s National Disaster Management System is working at full capacity.

Earthquake tremors cause water waves to rise

The possibility of the earthquake tremors has spread panic in the entire area. However, significant damage or loss of life has not been officially confirmed yet. According to officials, the situation is being monitored closely. Scientists have warned that aftershocks also occur in the future, and abnormal activity in sea waves may continue in this area.
