Weather update: Several parts of Delhi-NCR have been experiencing continuous heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms since late last night. This sudden change in weather has led to significant waterlogging in many areas. However, this rainfall has brought much-needed relief from the intense heat wave that had gripped the region for several days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Delhi and surrounding areas for today as well. According to the department, thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 70-80 kilometers per hour are likely in the next few hours. The IMD forecasts that this spell of storms and rain could continue until around May 7th, potentially keeping the maximum temperature around 34 degrees Celsius.

Air traffic at Delhi Airport has also been affected due to the strong winds and rain. Several flights have been delayed or rescheduled. Delhi Airport authorities have urged passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest information regarding their flights. Ground teams are working diligently to ensure a seamless experience for passengers despite the disruptions.

Following the rainfall, extensive waterlogging has been observed on many main roads and low-lying areas across Delhi. The situation is particularly severe in places where metro construction work is underway. The combination of waterlogged roads and fallen trees in several spots has slowed down vehicular movement, causing traffic jams for office-goers during the morning rush hour. Visuals of waterlogging have emerged from areas like Minto Road and Lajpat Nagar.

Apart from Delhi-NCR, the weather has also shifted in several other North Indian states. Various parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan have witnessed rain and strong winds, leading to a drop in temperatures in these states as well and providing temporary relief from the heat. According to the Meteorological Department’s estimates, similar weather conditions are expected to prevail across most parts of North India for the next one to two days.
