UPI Shutdown: Big news for Paytm users. Recently a notification came on Google Play, which created a stir among Paytm users. The notification said that after August 31, 2025, Paytm UPI handles will not be accepted, which created confusion among people that UPI payments will be stopped on Paytm . If you are also thinking something similar, then you are wrong. You will be able to make UPI payments from Paytm even after August 31. In view of the increasing confusion across the country, Paytm has clarified on this matter.

What did Paytm say?

Paytm clarified that the notification from Google Play was incomplete and this created confusion among the users. The company assured that all UPI transactions on the Paytm app, whether consumer or merchant, will continue as before. There will be no interruption in this. Paytm said that this update is only for recurring payments (such as YouTube Premium, Google One etc.). If a user used to make subscription payments from @paytm UPI handle earlier, then now he will have to change his UPI ID to a new handle linked to the bank.

Example: If earlier someone’s UPI ID was rajesh@paytm, now it can be rajesh@pthdfc or rajesh@ptsbi. This will not make any difference to the UPI payment. Paytm also clarified that there will be no impact on one-time UPI payments. Users will continue to make normal transactions as before.

This change is only to keep recurring payments smooth. Paytm said that this transition is being done after the approval of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), as now Paytm is working as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP). This change was technically necessary and has been done to improve the user experience.
