E-Challan – The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department is now preparing to impose a hefty late fee on outstanding e-challans. The department has set a one-month deadline for this. In Uttar Pradesh, it will now be mandatory to pay a challan within one month of its issuance; otherwise, a late fee will be levied on the challan amount. This new rule has been implemented immediately, so it’s wise to pay your vehicle’s challan on time.
According to Transport Commissioner Brijesh Narayan Singh, a new challan collection system has been implemented from August 10th. This late fee can range from 5% to 10% of the challan amount. That is, if a vehicle owner has an outstanding challan of ₹1,000, they could face an additional late fee of ₹50 to ₹100. The department has also launched an intense challan recovery campaign.

Notices and notifications are being sent to vehicle owners
The department has adopted a modern system for informing vehicle owners about challans. Email notices are now being sent to vehicle owners’ mobile phones through a WhatsApp chatbot (8005441222).
According to the Transport Department, the first phase of this campaign will include information on challans from January 2024 to July 2025. Following this, information on pending challans for the years 2022 and 2023 will also be sent in the second phase. Vehicle owners can also check the status of their challans using the chatbot. This step ensures that every vehicle owner receives timely information about their outstanding challans.
How to Check and Pay E-Challan Online
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an efficient e-Challan system for the convenience of citizens. Through this system, vehicle owners don’t need to visit any office and can pay their challans from the comfort of their homes.
The complete payment process is as follows

First, visit the Transport Department’s official website, echallan.parivahan.gov.in.
Click on ‘Check Challan Status’ on the homepage. You’ll find three options: by challan number, by vehicle number, or by driving license number. Select the correct option and fill in the required information.
All challans related to your vehicle will be displayed on the screen. Click “Pay Now” next to the challan you wish to pay. You can pay using net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI.
Upon successful payment, you’ll receive an online receipt, which you can download for future reference. By completing this process promptly, you can avoid hefty late fees.
