The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched an advanced digital storage system called Aadhaar Data Vault (ADV) to further strengthen citizens’ privacy and data security. This new system aims to securely store Aadhaar numbers, eKYC, and other sensitive information.

New digital wall to protect sensitive data
In the Aadhaar Data Vault system, every individual’s Aadhaar number will be encrypted using tokenization technology. This means that the actual Aadhaar number will not be used directly anywhere. Instead, a unique token will be used, eliminating the possibility of data theft or misuse.
UIDAI stated that only authorized institutions will be granted limited access to this data. Additionally, the system will also provide for real-time monitoring and audit trails, allowing for immediate identification and prevention of any suspicious activity.
Which institutions will be required to have an Aadhaar Data Vault?
UIDAI has clarified that any banks, government agencies, or fintech companies that implement Aadhaar-based eKYC or identity verification processes will be required to comply with the Aadhaar Data Vault. The objective is to ensure that no personal data linked to Aadhaar is inadvertently disclosed or vulnerable to cyberattacks.
This will not only make digital transactions and verification processes more secure but will also significantly reduce the potential for misuse of citizens’ data.
