FASTag: Fastag was introduced in 2016, in which a tag is placed on the windshield of the vehicle and the scanner at the toll plaza scans the tag. This automatically deducts the toll and gets rid of long queues. But still there were traffic jams at many places, the tag was not scanned or some people misused the tag.

What will change now – Toll will be deducted through GPS

In the new system, an on-board unit (OBU) will be installed in your vehicle, which will track with the help of GPS how much distance you have covered on the highway. Toll will be charged accordingly and it will be deducted directly from your bank account or wallet. You will not need to stop anywhere or stand in a queue.

The new system will bring these benefits

The more the distance, the more the money: Now you will have to pay toll only for the distance travelled, not the entire route.

No need to stand in queue: There will be no need for toll plazas, so you will get relief from traffic jams.

Less errors: If everything is automatic, then the chances of mistakes or fraud will also be less.

Less pollution: If vehicles do not stop, then fuel will be saved and pollution will also decrease.

When and how will it be implemented

Initially, this system will be implemented on large vehicles like trucks and buses, then gradually it will be implemented on all private vehicles and cars. For this, the government will start the process of installing OBU in vehicles.

Data and your privacy

People may be worried that GPS will leak their information out of the country, but the government has said that this system will run on India’s own satellite NavIC, so the data will remain within the country and will be safe.

Start preparing now

Vehicle owners have been told to be aware of the new system and get OBU installed on time so that there is no problem later. The government will provide information and help online and through centers. Overall, now traveling is going to be easier, cheaper and faster.
