New Delhi: The new financial year is set to become more expensive for motorists travelling on national highways and expressways. A hike in toll taxes is likely, which will come as a major blow to drivers. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is expected to make a decision regarding this increase in toll rates.
These changes could be implemented starting April 1st, which will hit motorists right in the pocket. With travel becoming costlier on routes such as the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway, public expectations will inevitably face a setback. You can find detailed updates regarding just how expensive travel will become—and resolve any confusion you may have—in the report below.

How Expensive Will Travel Become?
Starting April 1, 2026, motorists may have to dig deeper into their pockets. The daily commute between Delhi and Meerut is likely to become more expensive. According to the National Highways Authority of India, a hike of approximately five per cent in toll taxes on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway is considered probable. This will have a direct impact on the drivers’ finances.
Consequently, travelling on the expressway between Delhi and Meerut is now set to become costlier. According to reports, the toll tax applicable on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway is slated to increase effective April 1, 2026. Travelling on this expressway could become up to forty per cent more expensive.

Hikes Expected on Other Highways as Well
The toll tax hike being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India will be applicable across various locations. In addition to the Delhi-Meerut route, several other highways are also set to face this toll tax shock.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru route is also included in this list. Toll taxes on Bengaluru’s Airport Road, Tamil Nadu’s East Coast Road, and the Madurai Ring Road are also set to become more expensive. Furthermore, according to available information, travel on the expressway connecting Delhi and Mumbai is also expected to become costlier. The rates are also set to increase at the Bharthana toll plaza—one of the busiest toll points on this route.
