Ration Card Update: The Ration Card is considered a highly important document. With the help of a Ration Card, not only do the poor receive subsidised food grains, but they can also utilise it to access various government schemes. Ration Cards are issued individually to each applicant. In this context, significant news has emerged for Delhi residents. The Delhi government has now decided to increase the income limit for Ration Cards. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the annual income ceiling for obtaining a Ration Card will be raised.

A proposal has now been put forward to increase this limit to ₹2.5 lakh per annum. The Delhi CM stated that some time ago, the family income limit for Ration Cards was raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹1.20 lakh; preparations are now underway to further increase it to ₹2.5 lakh.

Major Decision Regarding Ration Cards
Discussions were held within the Cabinet regarding raising the income limit for Ration Cards in Delhi to ₹2.5 lakh, and this measure is set to be implemented as soon as possible. The government has ensured that the process for issuing new Ration Cards remains entirely digital. If the name of a family member is missing from your Ration Card, there is no need to worry; you can apply online from the comfort of your home to have them added. Additionally, the Ration Cards of lakhs of people in Delhi have been cancelled.

7.7 Lakh Ration Cards Cancelled in Delhi
Following an investigation, the government has cancelled approximately 7.72 lakh invalid Ration Cards. Concurrently, online applications for new Ration Cards have been invited. New Ration Cards had not been issued in Delhi for the past 13 years. The investigation revealed that 35,800 individuals were not availing of their ration entitlements, 29,580 individuals had passed away, and 23,394 Ration Cards were found to be duplicates.

Which Documents Are Required?
To add a new member to your Ration Card, you will require an Income Certificate, Caste Certificate, Residence Certificate, Bank Account Passbook, Passport-sized Photograph, and a Mobile Number. If your son is married and you wish to add his wife’s name to the Ration Card, you will need her Aadhaar Card and Marriage Certificate. If you wish to add the name of a newborn child, the child’s Birth Certificate is required.

How ​​to Apply for a New Ration Card
Applications must be submitted online.
Applications will be accepted through the e-District portal.
An Income Certificate and an Aadhaar Card are mandatory.

Blue or Orange Ration Card
These Ration Cards are issued to individuals who are economically vulnerable but do not fall under the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. These individuals are also provided with food grains—such as wheat and rice—and kerosene at prices below standard market rates.

Pink or Red Ration Card
This type of Ration Card is primarily issued to families living above the Poverty Line (APL). This Ration Card also entitles the holder to various subsidies. Furthermore, beneficiaries holding this card can avail themselves of the benefits offered under schemes such as the Ujjwala Yojana and the Awas Yojana (Housing Scheme).
