Weather Update – IMD Issues Heatwave & Rain Alert for 15+ States, Full State-Wise Forecast
Heatwave Alert: The Meteorological Department has forecast that heatwave conditions will persist across most states in Northwest, Central, and East India for the next 6 to 7 days. An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, the NCR-Delhi region, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. Additionally, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding heavy rainfall in several states across the country.

Heatwave Alert: A heatwave alert has been issued across North India due to severe heat. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for several states across the country due to intense heat. The Delhi-NCR region is currently experiencing the full brunt of this severe heat. Temperatures recorded at various weather stations in Delhi include 44.5°C at Safdarjung, 45°C at Aya Nagar, 44.9°C at Palam, and 44.6°C at Lodhi Road. Alerts regarding severe heat have also been issued for most districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Stepping out of the house during the daytime is becoming increasingly difficult. A heatwave alert has also been issued for Eastern India. Meanwhile, alerts for heavy rainfall at isolated places have been issued for South India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, the Northeast, and adjoining parts of Eastern India. Additionally, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding potential rainfall over the next five days in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Karaikal, and surrounding areas.
Weather in Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest temperature, at 46.5°C. Severe heat conditions persisted across most parts of the state. Specific temperature readings included 45.3°C in Pilani, 44.8°C in Bikaner, 44.5°C in Churu, 43.6°C in Jaisalmer, 43.4°C in Barmer, and 42.5°C in Jaipur. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the weather in Rajasthan will remain dry throughout the coming week, with temperatures expected to range between 42°C and 46°C.
Weather in Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh
Punjab and Haryana are also currently gripped by severe heat. In Punjab, Bathinda recorded a temperature of 46.6°C. In several parts of both states, temperatures hovered around 45 °C. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert regarding severe heat conditions for Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh.
Uttarakhand Weather
The maximum temperature in Uttarakhand has hovered around 40 degrees Celsius. Dehradun recorded the highest temperature, reaching 40.6 degrees Celsius.
Delhi weather update
Intense heat was felt in Delhi on Thursday morning. The sultry heat in the Delhi-NCR region has made life difficult for residents. The minimum temperature was recorded at 31.9 degrees Celsius.

UP Weather update
A spell of severe heat continues across Uttar Pradesh. In most parts of the state, daytime temperatures have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department’s report, Banda has once again emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued a warning for severe heatwaves in several parts of the state over the coming week.
Rain Alert for South India
An alert regarding rainfall has also been issued for South India for the next five days. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Karaikal, valid until May 26. Additionally, an alert has been issued for Telangana for light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds, on May 22. Alerts for thunderstorms and squalls have been issued for Yanam during May 21–25, and for Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka during May 22–25. Furthermore, rain alerts have been issued for Tamil Nadu (May 21–27), Kerala and Mahe (May 24–27), and South Interior Karnataka (May 22–25).
Rain Expected in These North Indian States
The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for scattered to moderate rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir on May 23, in Himachal Pradesh on May 22, and in Uttarakhand on May 22 and 23. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by squalls in Jammu & Kashmir on May 22. Hailstorms are expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, and Himachal Pradesh on May 21 and 22. Dust storms are expected in some parts of Western Rajasthan on May 22.
