The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PM Awas Yojana) is one of the most ambitious schemes of the central government, aiming to provide a permanent home to every poor person in the country. This government initiative has brought hope to those who were previously forced to live in huts or mud houses. Thousands of people in Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, applied under this scheme, and a large number of them have been approved.

32,000 Applications Received
Around 32,000 people applied under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Aligarh district. Of these, 10,153 applications were found eligible after scrutiny and have been approved. However, despite the approvals, the funds have not yet been credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts. Now, the administration has announced that the housing construction funds will be transferred to eligible beneficiaries’ accounts within the next week. A new portal has also been developed to make the payment process transparent and faster.
Verification process complete, and a list of ineligible applicants prepared
A total of 15,651 applications have been verified under this scheme so far. Of these, 10,153 have been found eligible, while 5,498 applications have been declared ineligible and rejected. Verification of the remaining 16,408 applications is still ongoing. The administration says that once the verification process is complete, eligible beneficiaries will be provided with both housing approval and funding.
24,000 families benefited in the first phase
In the first phase of the scheme, approximately 24,000 families in the district had benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana by 2021. The government’s goal was to provide pucca houses to all homeless people by 2024, but due to delays in the process and technical issues related to verification, this target has now been extended to 2025.
